I see four organizations that the WHB’s can assist for Christmas this year. All four are deserving and serve a different population. Two for men and two for kids needing help enjoying the true meaning of Christmas, sharing the joy of giving.
1) The Salvation Army Angel Tree project: (Committee Chairperson Kathy Wingard) for children who’s parents/guardians can’t afford Christmas. Gifts for kids who normally would do without because of being poor.
2 and 3)The St. Pete Free Clinic: (Committee Chairperson Babbs Cooper) Provides a homeless Shelter for men and also has a food pantry and a clothes closet. The oldest food pantry in Florida. Their pantry is bare and their clothes closet is almost empty. There are two separate needs for this particular organization. Do you have good used clothes you don’t need?
4)Camp E Kel Etu at Ocala: (Committee Chairperson, Diane Fudge) A camping experience for teenagers. They need clothes especially winter clothes. They camp outside year round unless it gets too cold. Do you have good used clothes you no longer can wear?
I thank all who have made this annual Christmas Project a success. Things like this don’t just happen, it takes time and effort and dedication.
I also would like to tell you all that my friend Frank Marx up at the blueberry farm is a great example of unselfish acts, all year long, just not at the special occasion holidays. What a big heart, I’m sure proud to know you and I’ll always remember how you ‘walk the walk.’
Thanks Dianne for the wonderful news letter. Let’s show the community and the state that we are of a giving nature and we will never forget those less fortunate.
Please give me at least 5 days notice before you deliver gifts so I can provide a photographer and reporter to record the event for our website and YouTube. I have one standing by to assist in this Christmas celebration.
Mike,
I am out on the West Coast this week and have been really busy. Please don’t let me forget to send some money for the Christmas Projects as well as clothes. We have been needing to clean out our closets for awhile now and I’ll get it done this coming weekend, box them up and send them to you.
Ben
Also preceding at a slower pace but still being worked on is the AVP (Alternative to Violence)Training Program. The trainers are still in touch and are trying to determine where their schedule could meet ours. I asked for 90 days to recruit WHB’s with the desire to become a Mentor. Once I hear back from them I’ll ask for Board approval before asking for volunteers in the Tampa Bay area 1st because that’s where the trainers live.
Once certified there are numerous opportunities to share, encourage and tutor incarcerated teenagers. Mike
There is one more project worthy of mention. I call it the “Coat for Cody” project. It is special in my heart because this is the only opportunity we have to help a “Marianna Survivor” this year. I’m glad Diane included it in her news letter.
And in about six months when he turns 18 years old and released from DJJ custody he will need help again. I see a chance for the WHB’s to be there for him and make a long-lasting difference in his life. I sure don’t want him to go where I went. Mike
I am researching the possibility of sending a “Christmas Package” to three WHB’s still incarcerated. It will not be expensive because they are not allowed to receive much. But I believe we should let them know we are remembering them at this special time and believe me when I say… not being forgotten at Christmas means an awful lot to those in prison. I was in prison and you came to visit me. I love that verse. Mike
I have began an after Christmas project. I would like to get all WHB’s birth dates so we can send them a very special made by WHB’s for WHB’s birthday card. They will all be the same card but one that can’t be bought, it will be produced by us. After the project gets rolling with the men I’d like to include all WHB family members but they will get a different but still very special, made by us for us, birthday card.
If any board member has an objection to this program or wants to add ideas or suggest changes to the project please contact me back. Mike Sapp
Director, Special Projects
PLEASE forward your dates of birth to Mike Sapp, Special Projects Committee Head at mikesapp007xxx@gmail.com.
This will allow his committee to send out Birthday Cards on those dates.
Thanks,
Ben
All of the projects are nearing completion. The Beacon House Project will be completed this morning (Saturday), videoed with written editorial by a WHBz sister Kathy Wingard. It will be posted on YouTube later today. Thanks a lot to all involved including Committee Chair Babbs Cooper with help from Jerry for extra media coverage and assistance from John Brodnax and all who assisted and donated. A splendid job on behalf of TOWHBO, thank you all.
The Angel Tree names have been chosen, all girls around 12 years old. This picking of the names was videoed again by Kathy Wingard and is already posted on YouTube under angeltreeintrowhitehouseboys. You can watch the recorded for the record ‘picking of the names.’ Kathy is the Committee Chair and will receive money today from the treasurer to buy the items requested under the chosen names. The reason we chose all girls names is because I knew we were buying new clothes for four boys at the Youth Ranch. The delivery of the Angel Tree gifts must be by tomorrow so there’s not much time left to fill this obligation but I have faith in my team and I’m positive they’ll accomplish this goal. You will be able to watch the delivery on YouTube by tomorrow night. Thank you Kathy for your time and dedication. And welcome to TOWHBO.
Diane is Committee Chair and will buy new clothes for the Youth Ranch program and deliver them. Her and Kathy will coordinate the delivery in order for the event to be videoed and placed on YouTube. I don’t know if the date has been finalized yet but the rest of the process has been set in order and the delivery is just a matter of time. Thank you very much Diane for coordinating this project and the idea to help these incarcerated kids. It was a wonderful idea and I appreciate you following it through to the end.
The “Coat for Cody” project has been accomplished thanks to Peggy. A great follow-up and accomplishment. Thank you for not giving up.
Also there has been a couple of WHBz that needed help for Christmas and TOWHBO provided food baskets and or other personal assistance.
As far as I know all goals have been met and no further guidance is needed. Everything will fall into place because the chairs will work out the minor details
Thanks to all who were involved in what ever way you helped, it took a concerted effort and that’s what we got.
Merry Christmas journey to all WHBz, it’s time hook up my sleigh and make my annual journey to the North. Ho Ho Ho Mike
Great job, Mike. It could not have been done without you.
And thanks to all your helpers who chipped in their time and efforts to help make it happen. And thanks also to the people who donated money, clothes and other items to bring a smile to faces less fortunate. ALL White Boys and their families have and are receiving a log of great publicity for these projects and it will help put a positive face on our organization.
This was a great experience and planning has already begun for next year and when we will have an entire year to plan and to obtain donations, the impact on the lives of others less fortunate will be huge.
Thanks again Mike. The membership sure picked the right guy for the job.
Ben
We received Christmas cards through Kathy Wingard from three of our WHB Brothers who are still incarcerated. They were made by the boys using crayons and other media. Kathy has sent sent four cards to people we knew of and received these back from three of them.
