THE WHITE HOUSE BOYZ ARE ONE OF THE LAST THINGS ON HIS MIND AND HEART

I KNOW MANY OF YOU ARE SO FAR AWAY COMING TO HIS FUNERAL WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE BUT AS MANY AS CAN POSSIBLE BE THERE TO SAY FARE WELL TO YET ANOTHER BROTHER WHO WILL NOT SEE JUSTICE IS SO IMPORTANT.

IF FRANK AND I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL WE WILL BE GOING AND CAN HELP SOME WITH RIDES.

THE FAMILY WANT`S EVERY WHBZ TO KNOW THEY LOVE AND APPRECIATE EVERY ONE OF YOU THAT THEY HAVE MET. AND WILL ALWAYS BE GREAT FULL FOR THE TIME EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU SPENT WITH THEIR FATHER. .

Results of the Projects

All of the projects are nearing completion. The Beacon House Project will be completed this morning (Saturday), videoed with written editorial by a WHBz sister Kathy Wingard. It will be posted on YouTube later today. Thanks a lot to all involved including Committee Chair Babbs Cooper with help from Jerry for extra media coverage and assistance from John Brodnax and all who assisted and donated. A splendid job on behalf of TOWHBO, thank you all.
The Angel Tree names have been chosen, all girls around 12 years old. This picking of the names was videoed again by Kathy Wingard and is already posted on YouTube under angeltreeintrowhitehouseboys. You can watch the recorded for the record ‘picking of the names.’ Kathy is the Committee Chair and will receive money today from the treasurer to buy the items requested under the chosen names. The reason we chose all girls names is because I knew we were buying new clothes for four boys at the Youth Ranch. The delivery of the Angel Tree gifts must be by tomorrow so there’s not much time left to fill this obligation but I have faith in my team and I’m positive they’ll accomplish this goal. You will be able to watch the delivery on YouTube by tomorrow night. Thank you Kathy for your time and dedication. And welcome to TOWHBO.
Diane is Committee Chair and will buy new clothes for the Youth Ranch program and deliver them. Her and Kathy will coordinate the delivery in order for the event to be videoed and placed on YouTube. I don’t know if the date has been finalized yet but the rest of the process has been set in order and the delivery is just a matter of time. Thank you very much Diane for coordinating this project and the idea to help these incarcerated kids. It was a wonderful idea and I appreciate you following it through to the end.
The “Coat for Cody” project has been accomplished thanks to Peggy. A great follow-up and accomplishment. Thank you for not giving up.
Also there has been a couple of WHBz that needed help for Christmas and TOWHBO provided food baskets and or other personal assistance.
As far as I know all goals have been met and no further guidance is needed. Everything will fall into place because the chairs will work out the minor details
Thanks to all who were involved in what ever way you helped, it took a concerted effort and that’s what we got.
Merry Christmas journey to all WHBz, it’s time hook up my sleigh and make my annual journey to the North. Ho Ho Ho Mike

New Board Meets

Dec. 7, 2009. Our Board met last night via conference call and approved the Christmas projects. Only monies donated specifically for the projects will be used for funding. Our general funds raised through auctions, corporate donations, and the small amount from membership fees, will stay in the general fund for helping the WHB in need and to help fund Reunion IV. More information will be forthcoming from our Secretary but it was thought is was important to get this information out immediately because there was concern among some in the membership about using general funds for projects.

Crist, others, bear shame for the white house boys

Silence is a terrible thing.
In this case, however, silence speaks volumes about our state’s elected officials, especially Governor Charlie Crist. When most thinking people would expect an official outcry about the inhuman and inhumane conditions at the Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, all we get from senior elected officials in this state is silence.
The lack of public response by the state’s leadership to media revelations of the horrors at the Dozier School – and the pain and suffering inflicted on boys in its infamous white house – leads one to conclude one of three things about Crist and others in a position to force change, all unflattering: One, they just don’t care; two, they don’t believe the media and eye-witness reports of the shocking conditions at the “school”; or three, the boys are too young to vote and therefore don’t merit attention.
Rather than grabbing self-serving headlines by empanelling a statewide grand jury to investigate official corruption in public office in Florida, Crist should have been at the gates of Dozier demanding the warden’s head and initiating the process to close the place to bring an end once and for all to the concentration-camp-like treatment of the inmates there. (He still would have gotten the positive media attention he so craves).
It has always been said that you can judge the humanity of a society by the way it treats the less fortunate among its citizens, and all Floridians can share some of the shame for the legacy of pain that has been written into the history books by the Dozier School. And yet, our share of the shame is lessened by the reality that we, as individuals, have little real power to change what goes on there. History has shown that governor after governor has neglected to take corrective action to protect the boys sentenced to serve hard time there, a dereliction of duty that appropriately increases their personal measure of the collective shame for allowing those evils to continue.
This is 2009, the facts about Dozier have been well established by the media once again, and it’s time to put in place a plan to gradually reduce the staff and inmate population and close the facility. If Crist and others in positions of leadership in the state aren’t concerned or caring enough to do it – or just lack the chutzpah – then the federal courts should take over and begin the process.
And, if our state’s leadership needs evidence of the evils there from one more eye witness – one more victim of abuse at Dozier – I’ll be glad to share with them my personal experience there as one of the white house boys.

Salvation Army Angel Tree Project

Committee Chair: Kathy Wingard

Purpose: Provide Christmas Toys to Needy Children

Opportunity: To give Christmas toys to kids who would otherwise do without.

Delivery will be recorded and include editorial for TOWHBO website and U-tube (if approved by Board).

Situation: Waiting approval of Board to proceed

St. Pete Homeless Shelter

Committee Chair: Babbs Cooper

Purpose: Provide good, used clothes to Homeless Shelter for Men

Opportunity: To share our over-abundance of clothes with the homeless

Delivery will be recorded and include editorial for TOWHBO website and U-tube (if approved by Board).

Situation: Waiting approval of Board to proceed

St. Pete Food Pantry

Committee Chair: Babbs Cooper

Purpose: To provide food to feed the hungry

Opportunity: To help ensure the less fortunate have food for Christmas

Delivery will be recorded and include editorial for TOWHBO website and U-tube (if approved by Board).

Situation: Waiting approval of Board to proceed

Camp E Kel Etu

Committee Chair: Diane Fudge

Purpose: To provide winter clothes, gloves, boots, rain gear, etc. to kids 10 to 18 years old who camp out all year.

Opportunity: To help incarcerated kids sleeping out doors be protected against the winter elements

Delivery will be recorded and include editorial for TOWHBO website and U-tube (if approved by Board).

Situation: Waiting approval of Board to proceed

Comments: I was hungry and you fed me; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you came to visit me.

Additional Project: HIPP training, recruitment of Mentors, etc.

Waiting to hear back regarding training date/schedule so a call for volunteers can be announced.
